Howdy folks, just a quick note to say I was recently invited by the very charming Mr Marvin Belle to write up the movies that inspired me in 2009. I often sit here in my crypt, scratching away at a monsterpiece whilst listening to movie soundtracks and scores, so it was good fun to share what visions haunt my conscious. You might remember one one my first commissions being for the very lovely Burlesque duo The Flirtinis a while back. Well, one half of the awesome twosome gave me a call and asked me to whip up a little something for her solo project. That’s right folks, in addition to the xmas cards, I’m doing a little run of 1 inch badges too. They feature The Wolfman, Nosferatu, Frank N Furter from The Rocky Horror Show, Stripe from Gremlins and finally – what horrible xmas would be complete without The Grinch?

Badges are on sale along with the cards at the Freaky Xmas Market in the Caroline of Brunswick on the 28th November.  Oh, badges are a quid each. Cards are £2. I fully suspect I’ll do bundle offers and stuff as well.

Ahoy! The first of a handful of horrible xmas cards for the forthcoming craft marke at Brighton’s Caroline Of Brunswick pub, where Miss Kate Kamikaze has been kind enough to let me share her stall. See you there, right?

Ahoy! This is a actual sketch, from my sketchbook, tarted up a bit on photoshop. Yes, yes, I do occasionally pick up a pen and draw something! It’s Dalek Sec of The Cult Of Skaro when in a startling move, he attempted to fuse his own DNA with that of Humans to further to Dalek race – with chaotic results. I thought his design in the Doctor Who television show was a little tame when compared to how horrifying a merger of Dalek and human could have turned out. So I’ve had a go at re-designing him a little. Enjoy!

Just a bit of fun experimenting with different brushes and colours. But yeah – this is a locust soldier from the popular videogame series Gears of War. This is to mark the first of a series of works one theme of videogames. Hopefully the next one will be a touch more elegant than the rather sketchy style here!

It’s the character from my last entry, only now he’s hopped off his horsey and is hanging around a campfire at night. Or standing amongst the wreckage of a devastated burning village. Your choice.

Inspiration drawn from a chat with the Mrs about light in images, and how Caravaggio used realistic lighting to achieve a greater sense of place and drama. Er, not that I’d compare my work to Caravaggio’s, obviously.

Maybe 5-6 hours work, graphics tablet, photoshop and custom brushes.

Inspired by Heavy Metal album covers of the 80’s. The character is original, but his design is based on alot of influences ranging from Simon Bisley’s ‘ABC Warriors’ artwork through to the Guyver anime series and Metal Gear series of videogames.

…It doesn’t get much more metal than that.

Process was approx 7 hours. Digital painting with custom brush set in Photoshop with graphics tablet.
